1) Where does Daniel invite Stephanie to? 2) What does Daniel’s brother do? 3) Is Daniel working right now?
答案:
1 Daniel invites Stephanie to his house. 2 Daniel’s brother is a student 3 No. Daniel is on holiday right now.
Daniel的笨嘴拙舌差点毁了与Stephanie的秘密约会。貌似绕口令的英语单词着实要好好研究一番了。
Welcome to the Department of Confusion where Daniel gets mixed up with some problem words and loses his chance with Stephanie.
Daniel:Hi Stephanie, haven’t seen you for a long time. Would you like to come over to my department? Stephanie: No, no thank you. That sounds a little boring. Daniel:Why? You don’t like my department? Stephanie:It’s not that. I just find the people there boring. Daniel:What? How can you say that? That’s my family you’re talking about! You almost dated my brother once! Stephanie:Your brother? Your brother works for your department? Daniel:Work for it? No, he doesn’t have to work. He’s a student. My parents own it. Stephanie:They own it? Really? I thought you worked for a big software company? Daniel:I do. Stephanie:And your parents own the department? You must be rich! Daniel:Yes, we all live there. Stephanie:You LIVE in your department? Well you mean you never go home? Daniel:It is home. My department is my home. Stephanie:But what does your boss think? Doesn’t he mind you living there? Daniel:Why would he? It’s not like he lives there. Stephanie:Do any of your co-workers live in your department? Daniel:No, there’s only room for my family. Stephanie:And you don’t mind being at work so much? Daniel:No, I’m not at work too much. In fact, right now I’m on vocation for three weeks straight! Stephanie: But you just said you weren’t working! Daniel:I’m not! Rob:Stop, stop, stop! Let me help you. This is way too confusing. There’s two words, APARTMENT, DEPARTMENT. An *apartment* is the place you live inside an *apartment building.* A *department* is place inside a company. Daniel:Oh. So I should have invited Stephanie to my apartment, not my department. Rob:Yes, actually! Another common mistake is between VOCATION and VACATION. A *vocation* is your job. A *vacation* is time away from your job, maybe to go on a trip somewhere. Daniel:So I should have said I am on vacation from my vocation, right? Rob: Uh-huh! Daniel:Hi Stephanie, are you still there? Stephanie: Yeah? Daniel:I’m sorry, I should have invited you to my apartment not my department. And I wanted to say I’m on vacation not vocation. Stephanie: Ah ah, I see. And you’d better improve your English! Daniel:Yeah, I will. Stephanie: Bye! Daniel:Bye!
